WING SHOOTING/BIRD HUNTING

From May through to November is bird hunting season or “wing shooting season” in Namibia. Hunters are not allowed to take more than two members of the permitted bird species during the hunt (listed in the trophy permit). But during hunting season more of each species are allowed. The best time to hunt birds at Beenbreck would be from July to mid-October. Early mornings and late in the afternoon at waterholes are ideal.

 

WING SHOOTING DAY

Breakfast is served early to ensure that hunters reach the waterholes early in the morning., depending on the weather and wind. Birds are relatively fast and aware of any movement around the waterholes. The challenge for the hunter is therefore to be extremely quiet and camouflaged against the rocky brown waterholes with not much trees to hide.  Once the temperatures start to rise the birds flock to the waterholes. All the hunted birds will be collected and used.
